In a season that the Hatters easily won promotion to Division Two, finishing second to Plymouth Argyle with 97 points, Howard bagged three goals, with Dean Crowe also on target in a comfortable win. Below, the Luton News takes a special look at just who took to the field for Town that day.
9. MF: Jean-Louis Valois
Fans-favourite thrilled supporters during his 34 appearances and six goals that season. Frenchman left for Hearts in the summer though, and his last action came for Aviron Bayonnais in 2013.
10. ST: Steve Howard
Was Town's main man that season and on the day, with his first-ever treble in a Hatters shirt. Bagged 24 in 42 matches, eventually notching over 100 times for the club. Now owner of Platinum Capital Investments Ltd.
11. ST: Dean Crowe
Good foil for Howard that season, as he beat Paul Musselwhite to a back header and netted one his 15 league goals from close range. Only scored twice more after that, as a broke leg curtailed his progress, leaving in in 2004.
12. SUB USED: Paul Hughes
Replaced Holmes at half time, as he made 22 appearances that term, 10 of them from the bench. Still netted three goals, including the winner over Kidderminster. Now manager of Hayes & Yeading.
