Town midfielder Andrew Shinnie has praised the Hatters fans for their support during his near four years at the club after joining League One Charlton Athletic on a permanent basis yesterday.

The 31-year-old, who moved to Kenilworth Road on loan from Birmingham City in the summer of 2017 before signing a year later, helped Luton to two promotions during his time at the club, as the Hatters rose from League Two to the Championship.

The former Scottish international made 106 appearances, scoring 10 goals, also winning the players' player of the year award in the 2018-19 campaign, but headed to the Valley in October and with his contract running out in the summer, has agreed a deal until the end of the season.

Shinnie tweeted: "What a journey it’s been @lutontown great times and unbelievable memories I’ll remember fondly!

"Thank you to all the team mates I’ve had throughout my time and also to Nathan, Mick and all the staff I’ve worked with..and to the fans for all your support.

"All the best."

The deal means Charlton will be now be able to include Shinnie, who has played 16 times for Lee Bowyer's side, scoring twice, with four assists, and the club’s five other loanees in a matchday squad.

Bowyer told the Addicks official website: "We’d like to thank Luton Town and Andrew for working with us to get this deal done.

"It gives us greater flexibility as we prepare for our final 18 league games of the season.”
