Stags thrashing won't change Wilshere's transfer plans ahead of deadline day

Town have until 11pm on Tuesday evening to bring in new players

Luton’s timid capitulation at the hands of Mansfield Town yesterday afternoon won’t change manager Jack Wilshere’s transfer plans ahead of tomorrow evening’s deadline.

The Hatters, backed by many to be up there with the frontrunners for promotion out of League One this season, produced a performance that showed they were anything but that, with a humiliating defensive display at the One Call Stadium on Sunday, conceding five times before the hour mark to suffer what was a quite simply abject 5-2 defeat.

Wilshere, who has already been busy in the market this summer, Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking midfielder Jamie Donley, handed an immediate debut, the sixth signing so far when agreeing a season-long loan deal Saturday, joining George Johnston, Kasey Palmer, Emilio Lawrence, Harrison Ashby and Callum Marshall in moving to Bedfordshire, now has until 11pm tomorrow night in which to further bolster his squad for the campaign ahead.

Town have been linked with several players recently to fill the spaces available in their 22-man squad, including Barnsley midfielder Luca Connell and Manchester United youngster Dan Gore, as although the Luton chief confirmed there would be more incomings, he wasn’t going to make any kneejerk reactions to what he witnessed against the Stags, saying: “We won’t panic, that’s for sure.

"We always said that throughout this window and we’ve delivered on everything so far. We’re working, it probably helps us now that the game (against Stockport County) is on Wednesday rather than Tuesday, so we’ve got a few days to do that. I love this group of players and I’ve spoken about that a lot, because of how much they give me and that’s probably why it’s (Mansfield defeat) a bit strange.

"But I still love them and they’re still going to help this club, help me and help us reach our ambition. We need to keep looking to see if we can strengthen, as in my opinion we’ve done that really well this summer. We’ve got a few more days left and we’re prepared for it. We can’t panic, we’ve worked really hard, we understood what our budgets and everything were. We planned for that, so we won’t panic, but we’re not done.”
