The Cumbrians have struggled all season and are currently 19th in the table, just four points above relegation.

Still said: “If I looked at clubs who were down there, they were always a club I felt had the capability of improving and they have improved.

“Whoever we play at the moment, people sometimes have changed managers which gives team a little boost.

“They’ve changed players which gives you a little boost and it’s the time of year when people who are close to the bottom know they have to start pushing now.

“Games are tough, they’ll be okay, they’ll be competitive and they’ll be a tough team to play against.”

Carlisle appointed former England international and Notts County boss Keith Curle before Christmas and he used the transfer window to bring in a player Still has been an admirer, Middlesbrough forward Charlie Wyke.

The Town chief continued: “I thought he (Wyke) was okay, they’ve brought him, he scored a couple the other day.

“Keith’s been around for long enough, he worked with Neil Warnock for some time and will understand the organisation bit most certainly and I think that he went in and they did all right.

“Then they had a bit of a lull when it didn’t quite go for them, they’ve come back quite strong now and it will be tough.

“But I don’t worry about that, if we’re right, we’re good, and if we’re good people have got to be good to stay with us, but I never underestimate the opposition, ever.”

Although Luton were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by York City on Tuesday night, Still admitted he will the result as a spur to move forward in their attempts to win promotion.

He added: “When you get a problem, how are you going to overcome it? That’s a great part of this job for me.

“To come in every day, and have won 4-0 every day, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with that.

“Well we all have to become better at what we do, you can never be complacent and this reminds you you have to keep working hard.

“It’s another test and you become better people by learning how to overcome adversity at times.

“Because it happens to us all. Do you look it in the eye and battle back from it? Or do you shrink from it.

“Well we didn’t shrink from it the other night. We got up and battled back.

“We’ve probably had too many draws, but if I was looking at the context of it, the context still says other people must have had draws and losses because win our game in hand and we’re three points from top.

“Someone decided that we needed a best and that test was we went 2-0 down.

“Yes they went down to 10 men, but that’s not easy, we had to really go for it, and we went for it.

“We had to show great character to get back into it, so there was a plus attached to a disappointment.

“Was everyone happy with the performance? Not really. Was everyone happy with the character to get back and get something, absolutely.”
