Hatters boss John Still isn’t getting ahead of himself before today’s crunch League Two clash at home to struggling Hartlepool United.

Town have three games left this season with the final two matches coming against fourth and fifth placed Southend and Stevenage respectively, but Still has told his players to take it one at a time as they look to leapfrog Plymouth into the final play-off spot.

Still said: “I’m putting the other two on the back burner at the minute, lets just play one game at a time. If that works for us then we’ll worry about the next one, but only after we get what we want to get from Saturday.

“The positive thing from the last three games is we’ve only conceded once and that was a deflected goal against the team top of the league. That has given us a bit of solidity going into the next game.”

On just what how the players will be feeling going into such a crucial period of the season, Still continued: “I try as hard as I can to alleviate pressure, some people can do it, some people can’t.

“I never stand there and say if you don’t do it today, you won’t play again, I’ve never been an advocate of that.

“I just go out and work as hard as you can and do the best you can. If you can do that, that will give us a chance.

“The attitude of the players has been remarkable, but I think through this run of disappointing games, even with the changes we have had to make, we probably should have done a bit better, I do think that.”

Town have arrested their slump of seven straight defeats by taking four points from their last three matches as Still added: “We’ve turned results around a bit, the last three games have been very encouraging.

“The team played the other night (against Dagenham) with that, we’re not going to get beaten attitude.

“Players spirits are okay and they’re up for the challenge of doing it. I said, it’s not about being the best team in August or April, it’s what you do over 40-odd games.

“We’ve still a chance of doing something better than eighth so lets see what we can do.”
