Still wary of Cureton threat

The 39-year-old forward, who joined Daggers in the summer, has scored five times in 14 games this season, taking his impressive career tally to over 250 goals.

On Cureton and the rest of his former side, Still said: “I’ve known Cureo a long time and he’s one of those people who keeps scoring goals. He just finds a way of scoring and wherever he goes, he scores goals, so he’s always a danger.

“Doey’s (Scott Doe), did a fantastic job for me at Dagenham. On his day, he’s as good as most in this league. Him and Wilko (Luke Wilkinson) forged a fantastic partnership. He’s very quick, covers well, reads the game well.

“Jack Connors at left back, he always impressed as a kid and has pushed on to a pro now and done well.

“(Joss) Labadie, I think he’s a decent, hard working midfield player. He gets around the pitch, lets you know he’s there, puts his foot in whenever I’ve seen him play.

“Batty’s (Damien Batt) an experienced player. He’s a right back who had two or three years at Oxford, he’s always a decent player at the level, so I’m sure he’ll do okay.

“(Christian) Doidge and (Ade) Yusuff too. I Iooked at Yusuff at Chatham and thought he was all right, I really did.

“Dagenham took a chance on him and he scored a couple at Accrington, while (Matt) Partridge, we had in here last year to have a look at, so we know about him.

“One thing Dagenham always have is players who have a point to prove, that’s tough sometimes when you’re against players who didn’t get a chance here or there, or weren’t taken on by this club.

“They’re always up for it and I’ve never known a Dagenham side never be up for it.”

Still remains a regular observer at Victoria Road as he was present when the Daggers were beaten 2-1 by Exeter City earlier this month.

On the threat they will possess, he added: “They should have been 3-0 up at half time and lost 2-1, with two goals in the last few minutes.

“They played very well on the night and first half I thought they were absolutely outstanding, while second half they lost a bit of tempo.

“They’ve got some decent players and have always been hard working, disciplined, committed team, because that’s the nature of the football club.

“Everyone there has to work a little bit harder I think and in my time there, everyone, every week worked their absolute socks off.

“Whoever plays at Dagenham & Redbridge, you’ve got to compete because they will only bring people in who can compete.

“They very rarely can afford to go and get the article, so they’ve got to make the article. One of the things they look for first is can they work their absolute socks off? Then we’ll work with them.

“I know how hard-working a club, not just a team, but everyone off the pitch too, as they gave absolutely everything they can to get them to a league club and to get them to Division One.

“Now everyone works as hard as they can to maintain their status, so I’m under not illusion to how tough they can be.”
