Town trio delighted by Cambridge tie

While Luton got past Bury 1-0 in their second round replay at Kenilworth Road last night, the U’s were doing the same, winning by a single goal at Mansfield.

The two sides went head to head in the Conference last year, with Hatters clear winners, and the two will now meet on Saturday, January 3 for a place in round four.

On the draw, Still said: “If I’m being honest, I’m probably glad it’s Cambridge.

“It’s not so far to travel, will probably be a bigger crowd.

“There’s a little bit of competitiveness between the two clubs which is fantastic, so I look forward to it.”

Winger Luke Rooney was also happy Town were heading to the Abbey Stadium once more, as he was injured forHatters’ 1-0 win earlierin the season.

He said: “I’m really pleased they (Cambridge) won, as the travelling for one and for two, I missed the game at the start of the season.

“It looked like a really good game, we took loads of fans like we always do, and it’s almost a derby, so I think that will be a good game.

“You either want it one way or another if I’m being brutally honest.

“You either want Man United away or Chelsea away or you want someone who you think you can go and beat.

“Having beaten them already this season, without belittling them, we’ve got a great chance.”

Hatters are back in league action this weekend though when they host Newport County and Rooney doesn’t think the cup run will interfere with their promotion ambitions.

He said: “It can only help staying in the cup as if you look at Bournemouth, they’ve got Liverpool in the Capital One Cup and went to the top of the Championship, so they’re doing well in both competitions.

“If we play how we did against Bury on Saturday and apply ourselves with the aggressiveness, I think we’ll have a good chance of getting three points Saturday and going back up the table.”

Meanwhile, skipper for the night Jonathan Smith was quick to put the FA Cup to one side and concentrate on league form as he added: “The job’s done in the FA Cup, we’ve just got to get through and that’s what we’ve done.

“It was very important especially after we conceded the late equaliser away at their place.

“ It’s very important now, and I know it’s easier said than done, to concentrate on the league.

“We’ve got some massive games coming up over Christmas and we’ve got the job done, so we put the FA Cup on the backburner now.”
