Trio of Luton U21s impress Wilshere including midfielder with a shooting 'super-strength'
Academy graduates could get their chance to be on the bench in Vertu Trophy clash
Hatters boss Jack Wilshere has picked out three Luton youngsters who have impressed him for the U21s this term, with the trio having a chance of featuring in the Vertu Trophy squad this evening, including one whose shooting ability the manager labelled as something of a ‘super-strength’.
The first is teenage full back Harry Fox, who joined the academy at the age of nine, and has actually made his senior first team debut recently, when coming on in the final group stage game of the competition against Brighton & Hove Albion U21s, Town triumphing 3-1 on the night. Goalkeeper Luca Thomas is another who has impressed the former England and Arsenal star, the youngster agreeing professional terms in May, selected on the bench against the Seagulls, as he can often be seen warming up Josh Keeley and James Shea ahead of Luton’s League One fixtures.
Finally, 19-year-old midfielder Jack Lorentzen-Jones is one who has really caught the eye, also in the squad to take on Brighton, as the youngster, who had a loan spell with Hemel Hempstead, has become a regular in training sessions with the first team at the Brache. All three played in the recent Premier League Cup clash against West Bromwich Albion U21s, a match that saw the Baggies run out 5-1 winners, Lorenzten-Jones in particular doing well, sending one fierce drive narrowly over the bar in the second half, as Wilshere said: “I really like Harry Fox and Jack, they’ve trained with us quite a lot.

"I don’t think they’re quite ready to take the step yet, but they’re going in the right direction. There’s definitely an opportunity for him (Lorentzen-Jones) as he trains with us so much. If he keeps improving, keeps training the right way, there’s some things he needs to get better at and he knows that. His super-strength is his shooting, his ability to get a yard and shoot which can help us, so we’re always keeping an eye on that.
"We’re always in contract, we’ve got Kevin Foley on the staff who knows them better than anyone, so whenever we need them, they’re ready to step in. The goalie’s (Thomas) really good, has really high potential for us, but I quite like the different mix of players they have in the 21s. When they come over with us they’ve done really well. We’re going to keep looking at them, keep asking them to come over and help us and when they’re ready we’ll give them their moment.”
