Murray finishes third in Birmingham

LUTON athletes represented Bedfordshire at the McCains Inter Counties Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham on Saturday.

In front of the Sky TV cameras, Rebecca Murray finished in an excellent third place in the ladies U17 race.

Backed up by Luton AC’s Bethan Hanson, 42nd, Revee Walcott-Nolan, 61st, Ellie Still, 100th, and Hannah Farmer, 158th, the team finished a commendable seventh.

Jamal Lewis, after his recent second place in the National Indoor 800m Championships, and one of the youngest in the U15 boys race, finished a remarkable sixth.

In the ladies race, Stopsley Strider Louise Peters ran well to finish 61st with Luton’s Claire McMahon 117th.

Darren Deed finished a fine 12th running the 12km course in 36.09mins.

Luton youngsters will end their cross-country season next weekend when the English Schools Championships are held at Ilton in Somerset.
