Luton went down to a 5-1 defeat against title-challengers Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The Hatters conceded early on when Daiki Hashioka scored an unfortunate own goal, although it took them an hour to double that lead, Mateo Kovacic on target in the second period. Erling Haaland then converted a penalty, before Ross Barkley pulled one back with 12 minutes left, only to see Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol find the net late on. Unfortunate to see a mix-up with Burke in the first minute saw City eventually open the scoring in fortuitous fashion when Haaland's volley rebounded in. Confidence on the ball in his own half and under real pressure was noticeable, cleverly intercepting and stepping out to break away from his opponents, one such burst seeing Town almost make something of their only real attack in the first half. Did so in the second period as well, as during Town's tiny bit of concerted pressure, he linked well with Woodrow, denied a goal by the legs of Ederson. Photo: DARREN STAPLES

Second Premier League start of the season as his consistent level of fitness means he continues to be an important part of Town's run-in, looking to carry on from his excellent cameo during the 2-1 success over AFC Bournemouth last weekend. Knew it would be far harder this time, even without Rodri in the hosts' starting line-up, as try as they might, Luton just couldn't get any time on the ball to take up some advanced position and frustrate their opponents. Worked hard in his 75 minutes on the pitch though. Photo: Matt McNulty

Knew he was in for some hard graft and it proved that as he was left chasing the City players around the Etihad during the 88 minutes he was on for. One crossfield pass picked out Haaland in the first half, but didn’t make the same mistake afterwards, as he managed to keep the ball well in the few moments of possession the Hatters enjoyed. Never had the chance to show off his clinical finishing as he had done in the FA Cup clash at Kenilworth Road, such was the dominance of Guardiola's table-toppers. Photo: Matt McNulty

Starved of any real possession the first half as City kept it for fun at times, just toying with the Hatters, so that whenever he did have a moment on the ball, he had no-one around him to make any passes to. When Luton did have their best spell in the second half, he was able to have a slither of joy, but once more that was soon snuffed out by a high class City side. Gave the travelling fans the moment they all wanted as well, pressing well to nick the ball away from Nunes, shimmy past Dias and then coolly beat Ederson with an excellent finish.
