Jasette Amos is living the dream as Fairy Bowbells in Dick Whittington at Dunstable’s Grove Theatre.

“I’ve wanted to be a fairy ever since I was a little girl,” she confessed. “It’s the most fun thing I’ve done in my entire life.”
That’s quite a statement coming from the lady who’s sung with Elton John and Madonna and who’s on call as vocal coach to many of today’s up-and-coming young musicians.

“Being in panto is brilliant, it’s not like working,” she said. “It sounds like a cliche but this cast is so nice, we get on really well. They’re all so good at what they do but so chilled out.
“Leslie Grantham” – Dirty Den in EastEnders – “is magic and funny and Ryan Moloney” – better known as Toadfish in Neighbours – “is a darling.”

Jasette was born in Lewisham and wanted to be an interior designer.

“But me and my sister were best friends with Mica Paris and when I heard her sing in my bedroom it blew me away,” she said. “I decided I wanted to be a singer too.”

She joined a gospel choir and her wonderfully warm and powerful alto was soon wowing audiences across Europe.

Her voice models are Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan. She’s also mad for Michael Buble and would love to have the ‘clean’ vocals of Doris Day.

The mother-of-one schools her voice while she’s doing the washing-up. “I choose something that stretches my range,” she explained. “Right now it’s Jesse J’s Mama Said.”
Her teenage son Isael has started playing bass and she’s thrilled he’s following in her footsteps.
