Tree-mendous! New National Forest on our doorstep

A new National Forest is to be planted in Bedfordshire it was announced today.
It’s all part of £1 billion government investment in tree planting backed by Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard constituency MP Alex Mayer, who chairs Parliament’s Woods and Trees “All-Party” Group.
Millions of trees will be planted in the county supporting efforts to tackle the climate crisis and restore nature.
Ms Mayer said: “Taking a walk amongst trees is so important for our health - both physical and mental. So I’m thrilled that Bedfordshire has been chosen as home for the next National Forest, right on our doorstep. Protecting and restoring our natural environment is a real priority for me. With tree-planting now at its highest level in over twenty years, it’s clear this Government is serious about nature.”
Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds added: “Our woodlands are vital for regulating our climate, supporting wildlife and increasing access to nature for us all.”
Today’s announcement delivers on the Government’s manifesto pledge to plant three new National Forests over this Parliament.
