"He will be greatly missed" Endangered Amur tiger dies aged 12 at Whipsnade Zoo
An endangered Amur tiger living at Whipsnade Zoo has died after keepers made the decision to put him down.
Keepers at the zoo made the tough choice to euthanise 12-year-old Miron due to ongoing health issues.

For over a year, he was having pain medication for incurable joint issues, related to his age.
The zoo explained: “We want to ensure every animal in our care is strong and comfortable, and that we manage any known health conditions proactively.
"As Miron aged, his illnesses would only worsen, and we didn’t want him to suddenly deteriorate to a point we couldn’t help him. This meant that the kindest decision was to euthanise him.”
The tiger served as an ambassador for endangered Amur tigers in the wild, and he taught visitors about the threats to his species after retiring to Whipsnade in 2024.
Whipsnade Zoo added: “It is with huge sadness that we say goodbye to Miron, he will be greatly missed.”
