Unsung heroes are recognised

Bedfordshire’s outgoing High Sheriff Jack Sapsworth MBE presented a slew of citizenship awards at a ceremony at Barnfield College.

Among the 24 individuals and community groups honoured were Ann Murphy of the Motor Nuerone Disease Association and NOAH Enterprise.

The awards are given to people of all ages across the county who give their time unstintingly to their local communities and who nominators feel deserve to be recognised for their actions.

Mr Sapsworth said: “I’ve visited many fantastic voluntary groups during my term of office but am equally aware that there are many more I have not had the opportunity to meet.

“This event gives me the chance to thank everyone who works to improve the lives of others in Bedfordshire and Luton.”

Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation boss Mark West said: “We work with the High Sheriff each year to try to increase awareness of the positive role models there are in our society.”
