Mulhern makes it a night to remember

CROWD favourite Danny Mulhern scored a 40-37 points victory over Sid Razak in his pro debut at Luton’s Liquid Nightclub on Sunday, writes Mark Wood at ringside.

The 23-year-old light welterweight from Donegal had been due to face Dan Carr, but impressed with his fleet movement and piston-like punching against replacement journeyman Razak.

Decked out in green, gold and white trunks and weighing in at 10 stone, Razak caused the youngster some trouble early on.

But Mulhern soon got his machine gun jab going as he outclassed the 38-year-old 10st 3lb Birmingham fighter in the black and gold shorts.

The vociferous crowd quickly got behind Mulhern, and Razak, who has over 70 fights to his name, was warned over some blows to back of the head.

Irishman Mulhern was by far the more cultured of the two boxers and proceeded to boss the encounter, although Razak looked dangerous with his wild swings.

The fourth and final round was a messy affair with Razak looking to end it with some big haymakers.

But he failed to connect and the House of Champions boxer rightfully took the decision.
