Dees hold on in thriller with Daventry

Dunstablians were 37-30 winners over Daventry in their Midlands Three East South clash on Saturday.

The hosts took the initiative early on when Ashley Warren touched down, although Daventry soon levelled with a try of their own.

Dees were back on the front foot though as Scott Warren went over, Kevin Boland converting, before Zach Bourne crossed the line to put his side 17-5 in front.

Two penalties from the visitors saw them reduce the deficit to six points, but Dees extended their lead once more when Pete Thompson dotted down, although Boland couldn’t add the extras.

Daventry missed a penalty of their own before half time as they changed ends 22-11 behind.

In the second period, Dees’ lead was cut straight away as a converted try saw the narrow.

However, they stepped on the gas as Boland went over himself, before kicking the extra points and then Will Hewitt touched down too to make it 34-18.

However, Daventry came back fighting as they grabbed a converted try and soon went over again to close the gap to just 34-30.

Thompson then made sure of the points late on with a drop goal as Dees ran out 37-30 victors.

Dees visit Stockwood Park this weekend.
