Evans frustrated at lack of a Hatters guard of honour

Bitter Crawley boss Steve Evans admitted he was disappointed Hatters players didn’t form a guard of honour before their clash in midweek.

After winning the league title at Tamworth on Saturday, Evans had expected Town to line up prior to kick off, but the visitors didn’t comply.

He said: “I did expect the players of Luton Town to give my players a guard of honour on to the pitch at the start of a wonderful night, but obviously they were told not to do that.

“I know a number of the Luton players personally and I know what was said to them about a guard of honour, but I won’t compromise them or embarrass the individuals concerned.

“It is disappointing to say the least but it won’t change where we are heading next season.

“Luton Town are the giant football club in the Blue Square Bet Premier and they should help set the standards.

“They have the most fantastic supporters and had it been reversed and they were champions, they would have expected it from us. The difference is we would have done it.”
