Wilshere searching for a midfielder but Town boss won't be rushed into any panic buys
Luton have until 11pm on Tuesday to bolster their squad
Luton boss Jack Wilshere won’t be panicking in the closing stages of the transfer window despite conceding he is looking to strengthen his midfield options after the departure of George Saville to Bromley yesterday.
The 32-year-old, who hadn’t featured in any of the Hatters first three match-day squads of the season, headed to Town’s League One rivals for an undisclosed fee, and with Jordan Clark out for several weeks after breaking his jaw against Notts County at the weekend, plus Jayden Luker still nursing a hamstring injury, it leaves Luton looking short of numbers in that area.
With Shandon Baptiste still working his way back to full fitness after a serious knee injury and Sverre Sandal yet to really break into the first team, missing Thursday night’s trip to Chelsea with another minor knock, then having started an exhausting run of five games in 15 games, it leaves Town with only Liam Walsh and Kasey Palmer as their options.

They have until 11pm on Tuesday evening in which to bolster that area, Saville’s exit meaning they now have five spaces available to do some business, as with Palmer having to play in a deeper role at Stamford Bridge in midweek, asked if that showed they need to boost their midfield options, Wilshere said: “Yes, probably, but I also think that was part of the plan because, sometimes people have a perception at this level that when you get the ball back that they’re gong to counter press and the tempos really high.
"Sometimes of course, it is, but actually we thought when we do win the ball back, they’re not as aggressive as many teams are, so we wanted a player like Kasey who can dribble, who can take the ball, a little bit closer to our defence. We know that’s not his best position, but I thought he did well there.
“I told you we’re not done, but one thing we won’t do and haven’t done in the window is panic. I’ve said all along we had a plan, and up to now we’ve executed everything we wanted, so I’m confident. I’m happy for George that he’s got the move and he can go and play and we have a plan. We’re calm, we’re looking, we’ve always been looking. We’ve worked really hard all summer to identify and worked really hard to not be panicking in these situations, so we won’t be panicking, but we know what we need to do.”
